Govt asks CBI to probe bribery allegation over Embraer aircraft deal

| | Sep 14, 2016, at 07:20 pm
New Delhi, Sept 14 (IBNS) : Digging into the past further beyond AgustaWestland chopper deal, the Narendra Modi Government has asked the CBI to investigate a deal signed with Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer during the previous UPA rule, reports said.

The $208-million Embraer Aircraft Deal involving purchase of three aircraft was signed in 2008 during the first term of the Congress-led UPA Government.

Embraer is  the world's third largest aircraft maker. The Defence Ministry had earlier asked it  to explain media reports that the firm had hired  a UK-based  Indian middleman.

The three aircraft, equipped with indigenous radars for Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems, were  delivered in 2011 and  2013.

Embraer deals came under scanner after  the US Justice Department started investigating Embraer for alleged payment of bribes to secure contracts in various countries.
