Goa Minister Michael Lobo quits ahead of polls

Panaji/IBNS: In an apparent setback for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Goa Minister Michael Lobo quit on Monday.

He has resigned both as an MLA and Minister.

Lobo, who was close to former Goa Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar, tweeted, "After a lot of reasoning and contemplation, I have submitted my resignation as a MLA & Minister.

"The way ahead from here will be a well thought decision in the favor of the welfare of Bardez and with the support of our people."

Lobo, who is yet to decide on which party he may join next, had a public fallout with Parrikar's successor and current Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Goa, the coastal state and a tourist hotspot, will go to polls on Feb 14.

The results will be declared on Mar 10.
