Girl drowns as boat capsizes in Krishna River

Vijayawada, Aug 17 (UNI) The heavy floods to the river Krishna has claimed one life in Krishna district as a girl drowned when the country boat on which she was being shifted to safer place capsized at Chevitikallu village in Kanchakacharla mandalm.

The deceased was identified as K Tulasi Priya (12).

The incident took place on Friday, police said.

The NDRF teams found the body some distance away to the village and fished out on Saturday.

According to police, K Ramesh and Nagamani live at Chevitikallu village along with their two daughters.

As flood water entered into their village, the couple along with their two daughters boarded a country boat to reach to a safer place.

However, the country boat capsized in the middle of the water. Ramesh held one her daughters but his younger daughter, washed away in the swirling flood water, the police further said.

After conducting postmortem at Nandigama Government hospital, the body was handed over to the parents, police added.

M Jaganmohan Rao and leaders consoled the bereaved family members.

This is the first death caused by floods in Krishna district.
