Ghaziabad viral video case: Supreme Court seeks response from ex-Twitter India MD
New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court Friday sought a detailed response from former Twitter India Managing Director (MD), Manish Maheshwari, after hearing the Uttar Pradesh government's plea challenging the Karnataka High Court's order granting him interim protection in connection with the Ghaziabad viral video case.
A three-judge bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) N V Ramana, said, "We issue notice (to Maheshwari). We will hear the matter in detail later."
Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta, who appeared for the UP government, said a question of law, relating to the territorial jurisdiction of the High Court, needed examination.
Mehta questioned the jurisdiction of the High Court, which quashed the personal appearance notice to Maheshwari in the case.
The apex court was hearing the appeal filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police, challenging the interim protection from arrest granted by the High Court to Maheshwari.
On Jun 24, the High Court directed that no coercive action be taken against Maheshwari, whose presence was sought by UP Police in connection with the circulation of a "misleading" video alleging assault on an elderly man in Ghaziabad.
Subsequently, the UP government moved the apex court, challenging the High Court order.
