Garbage politics sweeps Delhi, AAP-BJP leaders clean streets

New Delhi, June 13 (IBNS): Just a day after sanitation workers in east and north Delhi called off their strike, the streets of the capital on Saturday got transformed into a war zone. Both Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and party workers have hit the streets with brooms and shovels to take part in the cleanliness drive.

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia flagged off the campaign from his constituency Patparganj with other party workers to clean the garbage in the streets.

Other AAP leaders, like Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Alka Lamba, were also seen cleaning rubbish scattered all over the roads in their respective constituencies.

On the other hand Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay on Thursday said: “We have target of 48 hours to clean Delhi.”

The sanitation workers of North and East Delhi called off their strike after the Delhi High Court directed the city government to immediately release funds to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation for payment of salaries to its employees.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday held a meeting with the striking MCD workers. After his meeting he said: “Delhi Government says it’s the responsibility of the government of India. The central government says its Delhi Governments problem. Both are making excuses.

The national capital, on an average produces 8,630 tonnes per day of municipal solid waste, according to Delhi's Department of Environment.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh  Saturday morning tweeted: “AAP cleanliness drive after Sanitation Workers strike has been called off. Photo ops for AAP. Modi and Kejriwal are Masters of nautanki [drama]."

Reacting to the tweet, AAP leader Ashutosh said: I want  to invite Digvijay Singh to join photo-op-drama. At least he/Congress will get an opportunity to feel the pain of SAFAI KARMCHARI [sweepers]."
