Fund misuse: MHA starts probe against two NGOs of Badruddin Ajmal
Guwahati/IBNS: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has started investigation against Ajmal Foundation for receiving foreign funds and alleged terror link.
Ajmal Foundation,which is run by All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal, have received funds from foreign agencies, NGOs who are allegedly linked to terror groups.
Assam Finance minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has already started investigation against two NGOs run by Badruddin Ajmal.
“The MHA has started its investigation against the both NGOs run by Badruddin Ajmal who have received funds from China and other Islamic countries. We will get to know the probe details,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam minister also said the NGOs of Badruddin Ajmal had established few orphanage homes and they have a link with Turkey.
“Their link with Turkey has come out during the investigation of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR). I think that, we will get to know more dangerous facts in next two-three months or later,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Earlier, an NGO called Legal Rights Observatory (LRO) had alleged against the Ajmal Foundation that several Turkey and UK-based organizations have given Rs 69.55 crore to Ajmal Foundation for education, but only around Rs 2.05 crore of the total amount reportedly spent on educational purposes.
On the other hand, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has found fund misuse by the childcare institutions in Assam and Manipur which are running under the aegis of Markazul Maarif, of which it received funds from an international NGO and its alleged linked with terror groups.
The NCPCR also found nearly 300 children were missing during the inspections conducted by the child right body.
The child right body had conducted inspections in six childcare institutions in Dhubri, Goalpara, Hojai, Nagaon districts in Assam and Thoubal district in Manipur on December 14-18.
According to the child right body, 778 children were found in these childcare institutions during inspections, but according to the information in the bio of MP Maulana Badrudin Ajmal on the Lok Sabha website, there are 1,010 children in the homes and the Markazul Maarif website stated the number of children is 1080.
During the inspections, the NCPCR found that, Markazul Maarif had received funds from a Turkey based NGO which has alleged linked with Al-Qaeda.
On the other hand, Markazul Maarif – who is running the six children homes, has denied all allegations made against them.
Markazul Maarif general secretary Khalilur Rahman Laskar said: “According to our records, not 300, 179 children have left from these homes."
“We have all records. Out of 179 children, many of them have gone for higher studies, some of them are dropped out and some parents took away their children from these homes. As of now, we have the data of 901 children and they are living in the homes,” Khalilur Rahman Laskar said.
