Fresh turf war between Jung and Kejriwal over cancellation of appointment of DWC chief

New Delhi, Jul 22 (IBNS) In a fresh battle over primacy that involves Delhi's two top men Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung has said the "constitutionally valid and consistent definition of Government in the capital is the Lt.Governor Delhi."

Reports quoted  Jung as saying this in a letter that cancels the appointment of Swati Maliwal, the new chief of Delhi's women's panel.

The letter says the appointment of  Maliwal as the new chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women was not approved by  Jung and so is invalid.

This seems to have given a fresh lease to the high voltage turf war between Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the Lieutenant Governor who dragged the issue to the Centre and then to the Supreme Court, particularly after row over the authority of appointment of government officials.

Maliwal, 30, the wife of Aam Aadmi Party leader Navin Jaihind, was appointed by the AAP government four days ago.

She took charge on Monday and had said earlier on Wednesday, "I have no official communication so I can't talk about it. I am doing my work. The Delhi Government has appointed me and if Delhi Government takes back the appointment, I will abide by it."

Kejriwal accuses the BJP-led central government of trying run Delhi through the Lieutenant Governor bypassing the democratically elected AAP government.
