France crisis: Modi speaks to Hollande, condemns attack in Paris

New Delhi/Paris, Jan 9 (IBNS): Amid double hostage crisis in France, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to the European nation's President Francois Hollande on Friday.

"Prime Minister condemned the terrorist attack in Paris in the strongest terms, conveyed condolences on behalf of the people of India and expressed solidarity with the people of France. He expressed confidence that President Hollande and the people of France will deal with this moment of grief and challenge with fortitude and that they will succeed in combating the forces of terrorism. Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to counter-terrorism cooperation as a key element of the growing strategic partnership between the two countries," Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement.

"President Hollande thanked Prime Minister for the telephone call and for the solidarity and support France had received from the people, government, political parties and media of India. He added that this support from the world`s largest democracy meant a lot to the people of France. He underlined his commitment to deepen India-France defence and security cooperation and looked forward to receiving Prime Minister in France this year," it said.

France is facing another crisis situation with double hostage crisis shaking the peace of the country on Friday with the police cornering the two Charlie Hebdo massacre suspects  in Dammartin-en-Goele town while another  gunman taking hostages at a kosher supermarket in Paris.
