Srinagar/IBNS: Four Army personnel were killed and six received injuries after terrorists attacked a military convoy in the remote Machedi area of Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district on Monday afternoon.

The Army vehicles were on a routine patrol on the Machedi-Kindli-Malhar road when the terrorists opened fire on them about 150 km from Kathua.

The injured have been shifted to a hospital for treatment.

After the initial attack, terrorists threw a grenade and then opened fire.

The security forces retaliated but the terrorists fled into the nearby forest, media reports said.

Reinforcements were then rushed to the spot and a search op was launched to nab the terrorists.

Officials said there is intermittent firing going on between the terrorists and the security forces.

Reacting to the attack, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the answer to the continuous terrorist attacks has to be strict action, not "hollow speeches and false promises".

In a post on X, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Deeply anguished at the martyrdom of our four brave Indian Army soldiers in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua. Six jawans are also injured."

"We unequivocally condemn this cowardly terror attack on the Army convey in the strongest possible terms," the Congress chief added.

This is the second attack on the Indian Army in the Jammu region in the past 48 hours.

On Sunday an Army camp in Rajouri district was attacked. One soldier was injured.

Monday's attack came 24 hours after six terrorists were killed across two separate encounters in J&K's Kulgam district.

The encounters, which began on Saturday, also claimed the lives of two soldiers, including a para-trooper, while another soldier sustained injuries
