Former Uttarakhand Minister arrested on rape charges

| | Jul 30, 2016, at 07:26 pm
Dehradun, July 30 (IBNS) : Police on Saturday arrested Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Uttarakhand Minister Harak Singh Rawat following charges of rape and harassment, reports said.

The complaint against him was  lodged by a 32-year-old woman at Safdarjung police station in New Delhi.

The woman, who hails from Assam, alleged in her complaint that Rawat had sexually assaulted her  two year back.

Rawat had faced similar charges in 2014 when an FIR was filed against him for molesting a 30-year-old woman in New Delhi. Investigation into the case is still going on.

Rawat, who in the past belonged to the Congress, had served as a minister in the cabinets of  Vijay Bahuguna and Harish Rawat.

He was suspended from Congress in May this year after he joined the rebel group that broke away from the Congress.

After his suspension, he joined the BJP.
