Former Attorney General GE Vahanvati dies
New Delhi, Sept 2 (IBNS): Former Attorney General Goolam Essaji Vahanvati breathed his last on Tuesday after he suffered a heart attack.
He was 65.
Vahanvati was reportedly suffering from a lung infection.
He was the 13th Attorney General for India.
His first term in office commenced in June 2009 and was for three years.
In 2012 it was extended by two years.
Vahanvati resigned from his position on May 27 this year, following the change in the government at the Centre.
Before this, he served as the Solicitor General of India.
Prior to being appointed Solicitor General, he was Advocate General of Maharashtra.
In April 2013, Vahanvati's role in government came under scrutiny after allegations of impropriety and coercion emerged from his junior law officer, Harin P. Raval.
Vahanvati is survived by his wife and son.
