'For publicity': Delhi HC says dismissing Juhi Chawla's 5G plea

New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed actor Juhi Chawla's plea against 5G rollout in India stating that the lawsuit was apparently "for publicity".

"The suit is dismissed. Plaintiffs abused the process of law. Costs of ₹ 20 lakh is imposed on plaintiffs," the court said, directing Juhi Chawla and others to deposit court fees.

The court also ordered action against people who interrupted a virtual hearing on Wednesday using a link on social media the actor had shared.

"It appears the suit was for publicity. Juhi Chawla circulated a link of the hearing on social media," the High Court said, asking the Delhi Police to identify and take action against the rogue singers.

On Wednesday, the Delhi High Court's virtual hearing regarding Juhi Chawla's challenge to the rollout of 5G in the country was repeatedly interrupted by rogue singers after the actor had shared a link of the court hearing on social media where she urged people to join.

Juhi Chawla, who was a top Bollywood star in the 1990s, had submitted a petition in the court against the 5G rollout arguing that it could have serious, irreversible effects on people and cause permanent damage to the environment.

In the middle of the hearing, singing fans became a steady annoyance and muting did not help.
