Kupwara, Aug 26 (IBNS): At least three soldiers and five militants were killed in two separate encounters that have been continuing intermittently since August 23 in Kupwara district of north Kashmir, reports said.

According to sources, two soldiers and four militants were killed in an encounter in Kalaroos forest area. In another encounter, one militant and one soldier were killed in Keran sector.

Large quantities of arms and ammunition were recovered from the forest area. The region was also cordoned off by the army as three more militants were believed to be holed-up in the area.

The forest cover has a poor visibility causing difficulties for the security forces to carry out an intense search drive, army sources said.
