Five CPI(M) activists gets lifer in Surendran murder case

Kannur, Jul 26 (UNI) Thalassery Additional District Sessions Court on Friday sentenced five CPI(M) activists to life imprisonment for murdering BJP worker K V Surendran near Thalassery in 2008.

Sessions court Judge P N Vinod also slapped a fine of Rs one lakh each against them.

The CPI(M) workers, who were awarded Life Imprisonment were M Akhilesh (35), M Lijesh (32), M Kalesh (36), K Vineesh (25) and P K Shaijesh (28), all hailing from Thiruvanghad near Thalassery.

The court acquitted two persons-- second accused in the case K Vijesh and seventh accused C Shabin, due to lack of evidence against them.

On the night of March 7, 2008, Surendran (62) was hacked to death in front of his wife by the CPI(M) gang after trespassing into his house.
