Fire breaks out in Kolkata apartment, 1 killed

Kolkata, Jul 23 (IBNS): A massive fire broke out in a multi-storey residential apartment at Laketown area in Kolkata on the wee hours of Saturday, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first noticed around 2:30 am from a flat, located on the third floor of the multi-storey building.

As many as 12 fire tender engines, Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel and police from nearby Laketown Police Station rushed to the spot. Firemen fought for nearly two hours to douse the blaze.

Owner of the flat, Gautam Dhara (45), died of suffocation, caused due to smoke from the fire. Three others, including his spouse and daughter were injured in the incident and were admitted to a nearby hospital.

After primary investigation, fire officials said that the fire had started due to a short circuit.
