Kolkata, Jan 9 (IBNS): An FIR has reportedly been lodged against Syed Mohammad Nurur Rahman Barkati, the Shahi Imam of Kolkata's Tipu Sultan Mosque, for issuing 'fatwa' against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to reports on Monday.

Tweeted Amit Malviya, whose bio says in-charge of BJP's national information and technology, "Imam Barkati, who in the presence of TMC MP Idris Ali, had issued a fatwa against PM for demonetisation now as an FIR against him.."

According to media reports, on Sunday, BJP state secretary Ritesh Tiwari, had lodged a police complaint in Kolkata's Jorasanko police station and demanded action against the Imam.

On Saturday, Imam Barkati had allegedly "issued a 'fatwa' against the Prime Minister, accusing him of 'bluffing' people through demonetisation, evoking a sharp reaction from the BJP, which demanded his arrest," reported the Times of India.
