FB, Twitter, Instagram new neighbourhoods of new world: Modi at Silicon Valley event

San Jose, Sept 27 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met world's top tech chiefs, including India-born Satya Nadella and Sundar Pichai, and shared his plans for digital India at a massive event at Silicon Valley in Sane Jose in US while stating that Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are the new neighbourhoods of the new world.
"Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, they are the new neighbourhoods of our new world," Modi said at the event.

Sharing the stage with some of the world's most influential tech chiefs, Modi said, "Here on stage you see a perfect picture of India-U.S. partnership in the digital economy."

The Indian PM said that California is one of the last places in the world to see the sun set.

"But, it is here that new ideas see the first light of the day," said Modi.

The Indian PM said that the most fundamental debate for his country's youth is the choice between Android, iOS or Windows.

Speaking about his plans for digital India, "Since my government came to office we attacked poverty by using power of networks and mobile phones to launch a new era of empowerment."

"The pace at which people are taking to digital technology defies our stereotypes of age, education, language and income," said he.

Modi said in this digital age, he has an opportunity to transform lives of people in ways that was hard to imagine just a couple of decades ago.

Identifying the power of social media, Modi said: "I see technology as a means to empower and as a tool that bridges the distance between hope and opportunity. Social media is reducing social barriers. It connects people on the strength of human values, not identities."

Digital India is an enterprise for India's transformation on a scale that is, perhaps, unmatched in human history, he said.

Speaking about the various initiatives launched by his government, Modi said: "I now speak of M-Governance. That is the way to go in a country with one billion cell phones, growing at high double digit rates."

"After MyGov.in, we have just launched the Narendra Modi Mobile App. They are helping me stay in close touch with people," he added.

Modi said, "We must ensure that technology is accessible, affordable, and adds value. Access also means content in local languages."
