Farmers' Protest

Farmers' leaders from 10 states present in agitation: Farmers tell PM Punjab and Haryana not the only states to protest

| @indiablooms | Dec 27, 2020, at 08:47 am

New Delhi/IBNS: The farmers agitating against the farm laws along the Delhi border have rebutted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement that farmers only from Punjab and Haryana are protesting, telling that  farm union leaders from 10 states are camping with them demanding the repeal of laws.

They argued that the kind of speech the Prime Minister gave on Saturday was not good for creating a conducive environment for talks and the government should try to develop an atmosphere fit for talks.

For the next round of talks with the government on Dec 29, the farmers said they have three agendas---withdrawing the three farm laws, amendments to an anti-pollution ordinance for Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) to exclude farmers from punishment, and changes in draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

Farmers' leader Darshan Pal said a tractor march will be held on Dec 30 on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) highway.

At a press conference in Singhu border between Delhi and Haryana on Saturday, he invited people living in Delhi and nearby places to come and celebrate the new year with the agitating farmers.

He also asked the government to stop making "misleading remarks about their demands and using government machinery to spread negative publicity against the protesting farmers" if the government is interested in listening to the farmers as mentioned in its letter sent to them.
