Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal State Security Advisor (SSA) and former Director General of state police force- Surajit Kar Purakayastha's ex-wife Sharmistha Dey (60) and her mother, Papiya Dey (79), were found dead in their residence at BE Block in Kolkata's satellite city Salt Lake (Sector-I) in the wee hours of Sunday.

After being informed that the duo was not responding to their relatives' calls, policemen from Bidhannagar North Police Station rushed to the place, broke their house's door locks and recovered bodies of the woman and her mother from two separate rooms at around 1:30 am.

Their close relatives and neighbours claimed that they had been unwell since a long time.

Sources in the Bidhannagar City Police said that after registering an unnatural death (UD) case with the local police station, a probe had been initiated into the case while the bodies had been sent for autopsy.

In 2014, Sharmistha Kar Purkayastha, who was a school principal, had joined the BJP after separating from her husband, citing that she was joining the outfit to fight atrocities on women.

She was an MSc in biology with a Ph.D.
