Ensure social justice in appointment of SC, HC judges: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin urges CJI

Chennai/UNI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on Saturday urged Chief Justice of India Dr D.Y.Chandrachud to ensure social justice in the appointment of Judges to the Supreme Court and High Courts.

Speaking at a function to lay the foundation stones for new Court buildings at Madurai, Stalin placed three important demands before the CJI.

Welcoming Justice Chandrachud to Madurai, the land were Kannagi, stood up against a mighty king to get Justice, on his first visit to Tamil Nadu after becoming the Chief Justice of India, Stalin requested him to ensure social justice in the appointment of Judges to High Courts and Supreme Court as well as proportionate reclamation to states in Supreme Court Bench.

He also requested him to allowi Tamil as the Court language in Madras High Court along with English.

In this regard, he said Union Law Minister Kiren Rijju, who was also present in the function, was in favour of this.

"I thank him (Mr Rijju) for that. Hence, I request the support of Hon’ble of Chief Justice of India to consider this favourably", he said.

The Chief Minister also requested the CJI to establish Supreme Court Benches atleast in the cities of Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkatta.

"We have already written on all these demands to the Union Government. I hope the Hon’ble Chief Justice and Hon’ble Union Minister for Law will consider our demands favourably", Stalin added.

He also requested the Union Government, the Judiciary and the Supreme Court to consider these demands.

He also said the judiciary should function independently and autonomously to safeguard the people's beliefs and ensure legal and social justice.
