Enforcement Directorate summons K Chidambaram in Aircel-Maxis case

New Delhi, July 5 (IBNS): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday summoned Karti Chidambaran, son of former Union minister P Chidambaram, over his alleged role in the Aircel-Maxis case.
The ED is looking if Chidambaram's firm was involved in the alleged transactions.

According to records, C Sivashankaran, the then owner of Aircel was forced to sell his company to T Ananda Krishnan, a Malaysian tycoon, by former Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran.

CBI launched an investigation and reported that returning the favour, nearly 47 crore was invested by Maxis in Sun Group, owned by Maran's brother Kalnithi.

As the deal was executed, Chidambaram's firm allegedly received a sum of money for facilitating the process.

The sale of Aircel was cleared by the Finance Ministry, which was then headed by P Chidambaram.

Responding to the summons, Karti has said that it will take some time for him to gather all the documents the ED wants him to show.
