Eight days on, IAF aircraft still missing

Itanagar, Jun 10 (UNI): The missing Indian Air Force (IAF) Even after eight days, the missing AN-32 aircraft with eight crew members and five other passengers on board could not be traced despite extensive search and rescue operations.

“Aerial search and rescue operation carried out by helicopters and C-130s during the day. Nothing has been sighted so far,” Guwahati-based Defence PRO, Lt Col P Khongsai said in a statement on Monday.

He, however, said that search by UAV will be carried out in the night to locate the missing aircraft.

The search operation by helicopters were affected yesterday due to bad weather.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) BD Mishra, who is on an official tour to the National Capital, on Monday called on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and discussed on various initiatives of the Armed Forces in the State and also about the missing AN-32 Aircraft.

“The Governor discussed about the missing AN 32 Aircraft in the strategic area of the state. He also apprised the minister regarding the initiatives of the state government,” a Raj Bhavan release said here.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Pema Khandu had called upon all the district administrations of Siang, West Siang, Lower Siang and Shi-Yomi to intensify search operation to locate the missing aircraft.

The DCs of these districts are in close coordination with the IAF and helping them out with all possible means to find the missing aircraft. Ground party consisting of ITBP, civil administration and members of local population is carrying out operation in this regard.

The aircraft with eight crew members and five other passengers on board had gone missing after it took off from Jorhat airbase on Monday afternoon last for Mechuka Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) in Arunachal Pradesh.
