Guwahati, Nov 2 (IBNS) : A total of eight contestants filed their nominations for the by-poll to Lakhimpur parliamentary and Baithlangso (ST) assembly constituencies to be held on Nov 19.

The Election Commission of India had scheduled that Wednesday was the last day of filing nominations.

A top official of state election commission said that altogether five candidates had filed their papers for Lakhimpur parliamentary constituency, while three filed nominations for the Boithlangso (ST) assembly constituency.

For Lakhimpur parliamentary seat, Pradan Barua (BJP), Hema Hari Pegu (Congress), Amiya Handique (CPI-ML), Hemkanta Miri (SUCI) and Dilip Moran (Independent) had filed their nominations.

On the other hand, Mansing Rongpi (BJP), Rupamsing Ronghung (Congress) and Raju Rongpi (Independent) are in the fray in the by-poll of Baithalangso (ST) seat.

BJP candidate Mansing Rongpi on Wednesday had filed his nominations at the office of West Karbi Anglong district returning officer, Hamren in presence of Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Cheif Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang.

The by-poll is necessitated in Lakhimpur parliamentary seat after Sarbananda Sonowal became as the Assam Chief Minister, while the Baithalangso (ST) seat had fallen vacant with former Congress MLA Mansing Rongpi joined the BJP on July 12.
