EC rejects Kejriwal's allegation of EVM tampering

New Delhi, Feb 4 (IBNS) Three days before Delhi Assembly elections, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday again raised his allegation of EVM tampering, but the Election Commission rubbished it as a 'rumour.'

"We urge CEC to allow us to put a banner outside each booth educating voters about EVMs ,"  Kejriwal tweeted. He said he was trying to meet Chief Election Commissioner HS Brahma.

However, rejecting his charge the CEC said the machines cannot be tampered with and are secure. "Such charges have been investigated in the past as well...and people should not heed such rumours," he told NDTV.

Kejriwal had alleged on Tuesday that during an inspection in the Delhi Cantonment area, four machines were found doctored in a way that the result always showed BJP, no matter what party the voters chose.

"Large scale EVM tampering? Yes, during inspection of EVMs in Del cant, in 4 machines, whatever button u pressed, light against BJP lit " his tweet said.

Reacting to his allegation, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, "Because they are in this situation now doesn't mean they start blaming other parties for EVM tampering and go to the Supreme Court to ask for a probe because everybody is dishonest."

AAP and BJP are being seen as main rivals in the Delhi polls to be held on February 7.

Both the parties have launched frontal attacks against each other to score points on various issues, but corruption, governance and development seem to be the thrust areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked AAP on Tuesday over the allegation of the party receiving donations from fake establishments.

"Now they stand exposed," Modi had said while ridiculing the AAP for its anti-corruption campaign that brought the party considerable popularity over the last few years.

However, denying the charge levelled by a breakaway faction, Kejriwal said his party was ready for a probe.
