New Delhi/UNI: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday briefed floor leaders from different parties on the pot-boiling situation in Afghanistan.

Minister of state for External Affairs V Muraleedharan said on Thursday morning that the meeting was called following directions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Pralhad Joshi, Arjun Meghwal, and Muraleedharan were present at the meeting along with the External Affairs Minister.

Among other leaders, Sharad Pawar (NCP), HD Devegowda (JDS), Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM), Ritesh Pandey (BSP), Pashupati Paras (LJP), Premchand Gupta (RJD), Mallikarjun Kharge (Congress), Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury (Congress), Vinoy Biswam (CPI), NK Premachandran (RSP), Jay Dev Galla (TDP), TR Baalu (DMK), Prasanna Acharya (BJD), Lallan Singh (JDU), Saugata Roy (TMC), Sukhendu Shekhar Roy (TMC), Navneet Krishan (AIADMK), and Tiruchi Siva (DMK) were present.

The briefing comes after the Taliban took over Afghanistan on Aug 15, triggering major security concerns for India.

India has evacuated many of its citizens from the war-torn country besides some Afghan nationals.

Concerns have been raised on the spillover of terrorism from Afghanistan to India, and also on the humanitarian crisis in the neighbouring country.
