New Delhi, Apr 11 (IBNS): Duke Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton on Monday paid homage to the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi as they visited Gandhi Smriti here.

They also paid tributes to martrys at Amar Jawan Jyoti here.

"TRH lay a wreath at national war memorial India Gate to pay their respects to India's Armed Forces #RoyalVisitIndia," the Kensington Palace tweeted.

"TRH followed Gandhi's last footsteps and paid their respects at the place he was assassinated #RoyalVisitIndia," read another tweet,

The Duke and Duchess later arrive at Queen Elizabeth II birthday party at the British High Commissioner's residence here.

The Queen will turn 90 on Apr 21.

The Duke gave a speech paying tribute to The Queen.

"As she turns 90, she is a remarkably energetic and dedicated guiding force for her family,"  Prince William said.

"George & Charlotte will discover how lucky they are to have such a wonderful great-grandmother - a role model for the rest of their lives," he said.

The couple visited India on Sunday and joined several programmes in Mumbai where they also participated in a cricket match which featured Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

On Sunday evening they also attended a glittering reception and dinner alongside some of the biggest names in business and Bollywood, to celebrate Mumbai’s film and creative industries.
