Devendra Fadnavis demands ban on booklet maligning Veer Savarkar

Mumbai/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday demanded a ban on the booklet, being circulated by a Congress affiliated organisation, that maligned the character of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

The booklet titled " Veer Savarkar, Kitne 'Veer'?" was circulated by Congress-affiliated organisation Seva Dal from a camp in Madhya Pradesh.

"SwatantryaVeer Savarkar ji is undoubtedly one of the greatest freedom fighters & inspiration for all of us!
Congress party has shown its distorted mentality by distributing a book which uses extremely cheap, insulting words for Veer Savarkar ji. Congress shows its mental bankruptcy," Fadnavis said in a series of tweets.

He also questioned if Shiv Sena, who entered into an alliance with ideologically different Congress to rule in Maharashtra, will tolerate this insult or ban the book.

"We want answers from Shiv Sena, which has made an unnatural alliance with Congress, if it will ban this book in Maharashtra by registering strong protest or repeatedly tolerate such insults of our most respected personalities just for the greed of power?" asked Fadnavis.

He said the BJP strongly condemns the booklet and also said that Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray would have never tolerated such words against Savarkar.

"@BJP4India  strongly condemns this book. HinduHrudaySamrat ShivSenaPramukh Balasaheb Thackeray ji never ever tolerated such dirty words against Savarkar ji. He would’ve been the first to react & that too in his own style," said Fadnavis.

He demanded that the Maharashtra CM should immediately ban the booklet.

The booklet allegedly questions Savarkar's patriotism and states that after his release from the Andaman cellular jail, he received a pension from the British.

The booklet also alleged that he and Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse were in a physical relationship.

Earlier in the day, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut also slammed the booklet. The booklet's circulation by Congress reportedly created a rift between the ally partners.

Savarkar's grandson Ranjeet demanded an immediate ban on the booklet.

Slamming the Congress party, he demanded that a case should be registered.

"Immediately, the book on Savarkar in Madhya Pradesh should be banned. A case should be registered under section 120, 500, 503, 504, 505 and 506," Ranjeet told media.

"Congress has always tried to defame Savarkar. Now it is high time that action is taken against Congress for defaming Savarkar. This is not the first time Congress has attacked Savarkar," he told India Today TV.
