Devendra Fadnavis accuses Mah govt, BMC of hiding COVID-19 death toll

| @indiablooms | Jun 16, 2020, at 04:45 pm

Pune/UNI: Maharashtra Assembly Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday alleged that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government as well as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) are underreporting COVID-19 deaths.

Penning a letter to CM Thackeray, he proclaimed that the ruling dispensation and the BMC are flouting the ICMR guidelines by not reporting the deaths of 950 persons, who succumbed to the contagion in Mumbai.

Mr Fadnavis demanded clarification from the government on why several deaths in various Mumbai hospitals were not referred to the death audit committee.

Tweeting over the matter, he underscored that the BMC is disobeying the directions by ICMR and WHO, hence an investigation should be undertaken on all such deaths in Maharashtra.

Taking on the MVA further, he cited an official circular which states that every case should be decided in a week. However, 560 cases of May and 148 cases of June, which happened in Mumbai, have not been decided yet by the Death Audit Committee, he accused.

When there are clear guidelines by the WHO and ICMR DELHI on identifying COVID-19 and non-Covid cases, is this committee made to prevent deaths or to hide numbers?, he questioned.
