Demonetisation: Kolkata Traffic Police stop taking spot fine indefinitely
According to reports, the order has been come into force from Sunday and all traffic police personnel have been directed to maintain the order until the publication of next notification regarding this issue.
"Due to the Central government's move to demonetise 500/1000 rupees notes, our cops are facing huge trouble while slapping spot fines, which is why we have decided to stop taking spot fines until the situation becomes normal," a senior official of Kolkata Traffic Police told IBNS.
"Instead of slapping spot fines, from today onwards, we will send cases directly to rule violators' addresses by post," the officials added.
Kolkata Police, however, confirmed that actions against drink-n-driving related traffic violation will be unchanged.
The Centre has scrapped the Rs. 1000 and Rs. 500 notes with effect from Nov 8 to fight black money.
