Delhi woman accuses sexual assault by Uber driver

New Delhi, June 1 (IBNS): In a shocking incident, a woman passenger in Delhi has accused an Uber driver of sexually assaulting her while driving her to Gurgaon.
According to police, the driver has been identified.

The victim's brother also lambasted Uber Company in a Facebook post that has been shared several hundred times.

"My sister availed your cab service, last night for Gurgaon & your driver Vinod tried to kiss her forcibly & even after registering complaint with you morons there has been no action, no update form your end," said the woman's brother in his Facebook post.

He has demanded stern action against the accused.

Uber, which is an app-based taxi service, said it has already taken action.

"Our team immediately reached out to the rider via phone within minutes of receiving the feedback....Uber has a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour and immediate action has already been taken with the driver partner even while the matter is being thoroughly investigated," the company was quoted as saying by NDTV.

A complaint has been registered by the Gurgaon Police in connection with the incident.

In December last year, a 27-year-old finance executive of a Gurgaon-based company had alleged that after she fell asleep in the vehicle, the driver  took her to a desolate location and raped her. He allegedly threatened the woman against reporting the incident.

Following the incident, Uber services were also suspended for sometime.

In an attempt to get the ban on it lifted, Uber cab services had then claimed to introduce new "safety" rules.

"The safety of our riders and drivers is the highest priority for us; not only for the rides we enable in New Delhi and across India, but also for the 1+ million trips we are facilitating around the world everyday. To that end, we’ve been working around the clock to make Uber in India even safer and we wanted to take this opportunity to clarify how Uber works and to update you on our progress," the company had said in a statement.
