New Delhi/IBNS: After receiving criticisms for not taking any step, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging him to call in the Army to control the volatile situation in Delhi where at least 17 people have died due to violence over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protests in last two days.

"I have been in touch wid large no of people whole nite. Situation alarming. Police, despite all its efforts, unable to control situation and instil confidence Army shud be called in and curfew imposed in rest of affected areas immediately. Am writing to Hon’ble HM to this effect," Kejriwal tweeted.

The Delhi Police and administration of the national capital are under the Centre.

The North-East Delhi was on boil for last two days after a clash broke out between the pro and anti-CAA groups at a time US President Donald Trump was in the national capital.

According to reports, NSA Ajit Doval visited the violence-hit regions of the national capital.

Several protesters, who tried to gherao the residence of Kejriwal, were detained and later released by the police on Wednesday, media reports said.

Shah on Tuesday held a meeting with Kejriwal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other political leaders to assess the situation in Delhi.
