Delhi Police now releases counter Jamia video, 'rioters' could be seen entering library with stones

New Delhi/IBNS: Countering the video released earlier where several cops could be seen beating up students at a reading hall in the Jamia Milia Islamia University, another video has now surfaced where some persons could be seen entering the university's library with stones in their hands.

Delhi Police has claimed that the persons in the video are "rioters" who took refuge during the police crackdown on December 15, reported India Today.

The Delhi Police Crime Branch's Special Investigation Team (SIT) has reportedly released the new video.

Triggering a fresh controversy, a two-month-old video had earlier emerged in the social media which showed several cops beating students at a reading hall in the Jamia Milia Islamia University on the very day the conflict broke out at the campus following protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The new video also claimed to be belonging to the same day.

The previously released 49-second clip was released on social media on Saturday by Jamia Coordination Committee, which is a group of alumni and students.

The video shows students sitting at the university's Old Reading Hall (M Phil Section). Suddenly it shows that several policemen barge into the room and severely baton-charge students as they look for cover and escape.

Some students run out as cops continue to thrash them, showed the video.

On Dec 15 last year, massive violence broke out at the Jamia campus following a protest march of students over the contentious CAA.

The battle between police and students had ended with huge vandalism of properties and torching of vehicles.

The police then detained about 100 students in connection with the incident.

A student had also lost his left eyesight after getting injured in the violent clashes.

What is CAA?

The CAA will grant citizenship to all non-Muslim refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan before 2015.
