New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arvinder Singh Lovely as the protem speaker of the Delhi legislative assembly, ANI reported.

The first session of the newly elected Delhi assembly is scheduled for February 24, during which the election for the Speaker will take place at 2:00 PM.

Before that, MLAs will participate in the oath-taking ceremony at 11:00 AM.

According to the Delhi assembly bulletin, LG Saxena will address the House on February 25, followed by the tabling of Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports. Later that day, a motion of thanks on the LG's address will be moved.

On February 26, the assembly will begin discussions on the motion of thanks at 11:00 AM, after which the Deputy Speaker will be elected.

The bulletin also stated that notices for the Speaker's election can be submitted to the assembly secretary by noon on February 22.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Rekha Gupta, who was sworn in as Delhi Chief Minister earlier on Thursday, held her first cabinet meeting hours later.

She announced two key decisions—implementing the Ayushman Bharat scheme with a ₹5 lakh top-up and tabling 14 pending CAG reports in the first assembly sitting.

Speaking at a press conference, Gupta confirmed that the Delhi government will roll out the Centre’s flagship health scheme, fulfilling a BJP pre-poll promise.

The party had criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for not implementing it earlier.

She also stated that the Delhi government would cover the cost of the scheme’s top-up and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre.
