Delhi: Kejriwal govt halts demolition of houses

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IBNS): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, which came to power in Delhi after winning the Assembly polls last week, on Monday issued directions to various agencies to not to demolish residential houses and shanties in the national capital until the demolition policy is reviewed.

The decision was taken  at a cabinet meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, reports said.

The AAP tweeted: "Delhi govt issues order prohibiting any demolition in the city!
Nobody should be deprived of shelter until proper arrangements are done."

Arvind Kejriwal took oath as Delhi’s chief minister  for the second time on Saturday, promising to serve people earnestly for five years and keep the government free of arrogance and root out corruption.

AAP, which earlier was in power in Delhi for 49 days with Congress support before Kejriwal resigned in Feb 2014, swept the polls in Delhi this time by winning a record number of 67 of the total 70 seats.
