Delhi government to install CCTVs in govt schools

Speaking during the launch of the project, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said this will be a milestone in school education, as it will make it possible for parents to have a live feed from the classrooms, via an application.

He further said that this move will ensure safety and security of the students.

Expressing confidence over the success of the project, he said "I am expecting spectacular results next year, as a result of this project. I do not think so far any project has made me as happy as this one. In the coming times, this project will prove to be a milestone for the whole world."

According to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, 'This will prove to be a very important step forward in the present times. I remember the incident, when a child died in a private school almost two years ago, and the police investigation into the matter is still going on. That's when the Chief Minister directed to install CCTVs in government school classrooms.'

'First, we installed CCTVs in the school campus. In the meantime, another accident occurred, where one of our teachers was killed. That incident happened inside a class room", he said.

Highlighting the importance of cameras for the teachers, he explained "Teachers face allegations of absenteeism from classrooms. No one will now be able to wrongly accuse the teachers of skipping classes.'

The Shaheed Hemu Kalani Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya has become the country's first government school to have CCTV camera coverage, said Sisodia, adding that in this project, cameras will be installed in each classroom.

The entire school premises, barring the washrooms, will be under the CCTV coverage, which will be monitored from a control room, Sisodia said.
