Delhi government orders magisterial investigation into Karol Bagh hotel fire that left 17 dead

New Delhi, Feb 12 (IBNS): The Delhi government on Tuesday ordered a magisterial investigation into the fire tragedy which occurred in a hotel in Karol Bagh area of the city and left 17 people dead.

Two people were hurt in the tragedy which occurred in the Arpit Palace Hotel.

Delhi government said there were violations of the law while constructing the building.

The government said fire inspection of all buildings in the area has been ordered.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said ex gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each will be given by the government to the kin of the deceased. 

" We will order an immediate magisterial inquiry on this incident. We would like to extend help to the family of victims with a compensation of Rs. 5 Lakh. The Govt will take necessary measures to avoid such incidents in future," he said. 

Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain tweeted: "Fire in Karol Bagh hotel. 17 causalities 2 injured. Magistrate enquiry ordered. Visible violations of building bye laws, building constructed 6 stories including one temporary floor instead of permissible 4 floors. Ordered fire inspection of buildings in the area."

The fire was first noticed at around 4 am, reports said.

24 fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
