New Delhi, July 19 (IBNS): Protesting against the alleged police inaction over the killing of a 19-year -old girl, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters demonstrated close to the Delhi Police headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday.

The police sprayed water on the protesters to disperse them as some of them attempted to break through a police cordon, reports said.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has slammed the Centre over the lack of law and order condition in the national capital after a 19-year old girl was stabbed to death here on Thursday.

"In the past few months, the law and order condition in Delhi is deteriorating everyday," Kejriwal said.

Slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, "Delhi police comes directly under PM Narendra Modi. Either the PM does something about this or the Centre should hand over the responsibility of Delhi Police to the Delhi government."

This comes after the 19-year old girl was stabbed 35 times by two brothers in her locality in central Delhi on Thursday evening.

According to reports, she had lodged many complaints of eve-teasing and molestation over the past two years.

Kejriwal has also summoned Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi to take stock of the situation.

"I have called the police commissioner on Monday to discuss this case and law n order situation," Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal along with deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia met the girl's family on Saturday evening and offered condolences.

Following the brutal murder, the Delhi government announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the girl's family.

The government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the case.
