Delhi forms 48 teams to enforce single-use plastic ban

New Delhi/UNI: Delhi Government has formed 48 enforcement teams to check the violation of the Single-Use Plastic (SUP) ban in the national capital, officials said on Wednesday.

The teams of officials from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee and Revenue Department of the city government will aid in the imposition of the SUP ban, they added.

Special training in this regard will be given to the officials to accelerate the imposition of the protocols, officials said.

Additionally, a helpline number 011-23815435 to report SUP violations was issued today, enabling the general public to contact the department with any questions they may have about this topic, they further said.

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the city government is taking every possible step against plastic pollution.

"Enforcement teams have been constituted by the DPCC and revenue department to implement the ban.15 teams of DPCC and 33 teams of the Revenue Department will work to inspect the restrictions on SUP items.

"Warning notices will be issued to those who violate the SUP ban till July 10 and after that penal action will be taken against them by these teams," he said.

“There are many questions and doubts regarding the ban of single-use plastic not only in the public but also in many industry associations.

"In such a situation, a helpline number - 011-23815435 has been issued by the department for all the people from today," he added.

"Through this number, people will be able to get answers to all their questions regarding single-use plastic by the department,” he informed.

The ban on select SUP items has been effective pan-India from July 1.

Earbuds made up of plastic; plastic sticks used for balloons, flags, candy, ice-creams; thermocol; plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, straws, and trays used for eating are in the list of banned products.

Others include packaging films mounted on sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packets; PVC banners made in less than 100 microns; stirrers are all included in the list of the banned products.
