Delhi car incident: Man accused of driving the car was at home, say police

New Delhi/IBNS: The man, who was accused of driving the car that dragged a 20-year-old woman for 13 kilometers leading to her death, was not present in the vehicle, a police probe has found, media reports said.

During the probe, the phone location of Deepak Khanna, the 26-year-old accused, did not match with the other four accused.

Deepak's phone location showed he was at home for the entire day, police said.

He is reportedly a Gramin Sewa driver and was also arrested along with the other four.

Police said the probe found that Amit Khanna, one of the accused, was allegedly driving the car.

"After the accident, Amit told his brother Ankush Khanna about it. Ankush then asked them to contact Deepak (their cousin), who has a licence, to take the blame.

"We are looking for Ankush and another man named Ashutosh. The two men are also involved in the case," a senior police officer said as quoted by The Indian Express.

The Delhi Police on Thursday said two more people were involved in the incident.

The two accused are Ashutosh, the car owner, and Ankush, the brother of one of the accused.

A distress call was received by the Kanjhawala Police Station in Rohini at around 3:20 am about a body being dragged by a grey coloured Maruti Baleno heading to Qutubgarh, reports said.

On receiving a call about the woman's body lying on the Kanjhawala main road, a police team rushed to the spot at around 4:11 am.

The cops found the woman's body without clothes and with broken limbs, leading to suspicion that she was sexually assaulted and murdered.

The five people, who were inside the car (including Deepak who was earlier accused), were arrested on the charge of "culpable homicide not amounting to murder", rash driving and causing death by negligence.

The 20-year-old victim's mortal remains were cremated on Wednesday.
