Debate on intolerance begins in Parliament
New Delhi, Nov 30 (IBNS) The debate on "intolerance" began in Parliament on Monday with the opposition and the treasury bench gearing themselves up for a showdown over the issue.
Initiating the debate in the Lok Sabha, CPI(M) member Mohammad Salim said the country is deviating from its culture of tolerance and intolerance has assumed a huge proportion in every sector of society.
"Democracy is all about debate and discussion...," he said.
At the end of the debate being held following demands by the opposition parties, including the Congress, Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to give his reply.
The Lok Sabha is expected to witness clashes between the government and opposition over 'intolerance". Incidents like the killing of rationalists, mob attacks over cow slaughter and beef-eating rumours and controversial pronouncements by members of the ruling BJP may be raised in the House as examples of growing intolerance under the current regime.
