Cyclone Ockhi: Death toll rises to 13, Kanyakumari remains powerless

| @indiablooms | Dec 02, 2017, at 03:59 pm

Kanyakumari, Dec 2 (IBNS): At least 13 people have died in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, which were hit by cyclone Ockhi, bringing in severe rain and inundating many low lying areas in both the states, reports said.

Among the battered areas, Kanyakumari has been hit the hardest.

The popular tourist place known for its famous Vivekananda Rock, is suffering from power outage as the cyclone uprooted more than 3000 power lines.

According to authorities, a complete revival could take upto a week's time.

In Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin, the rainfall has damaged several acres of banana plantation, while crops have been destroyed in the state's Thiruvarur district.

So far, thousands have been rescued, who have been left stranded in relief centres.
