COVID-19 Lockdown: Murshidabad SP transferred a week after mosque gathering

Kolkata/IBNS: A week after West Bengal government faced huge criticisms due to reports of a large gathering at a mosque in Murshidabad district amid the ongoing Coronavirus lockdown, the Superintendent of Murshidabad District Police, Ajeet Singh Yadav, has been transferred, officials said on Friday.

According to reports, the IPS official has been replaced by the SP of Counter Insurgency Force (CIF), WB HQ at Durgapur, K. Sabari Raj Kumar.

Ajeet Singh Yadav has been transferred to the post of SP of CIF, WB HQ at Durgapur.

Earlier on Apr 10, hundreds of people gathered at a mosque in Murshidabad to offer Friday prayers, flouting lockdown restrictions, social distancing norms and other precautionary measures.

After being informed, local police rushed to the scene and disperse the crowd from the mosque.
