Covid-19: Hundreds violate lockdown, join local police's peace march in Red Zone Howrah city

Kolkata/Howrah/IBNS: Violating the ongoing lockdown and social distancing norms, hundreds of locals on Sunday joined a peace march by Howrah City Police and local TMC leaders in Covid Red Zone Howrah city's Tikiapara area, where cops were chased and attacked by a mob while police were enforcing lockdown a few days ago.

According to reports, while many residents of the area were showering petals on policemen while they were patrolling at the location, a large number of locals came out and walked with police defying social distancing norms.

Several in the march at Tikiapara were spotted without face coverings.

Last week, several policemen and Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were attacked, chased and assaulted by locals at Tikiapara's containment zone Belilious Road area while cops were trying to disperse a gathering from the location.

Later a heavy police force rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.

So far, police arrested 13 persons in connection with the case, including two main instigators of the attack on the police and a youth who was seen kicking a cop from behind in a viral footage.

However, no response in connection with the "peace march" has been received yet from Howrah City Police or West Bengal Police.
