Kochi/UNI: Kerala High Court has asked the state government to file a statement on the action taken to contain the prices of hand sanitizers, masks and other personal protective equipment and to ensure its sufficient availability in the state.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice S Mani Kumar and Justice Shaji P Chali on Wednesday sought the statement when a public interest litigation seeking a directive to the government to ban gatherings at shopping malls and other places came up for hearing.

Justice Brigade, an organisation of Kochi-based lawyers, in its petition also sought a directive to the government to take immediate steps to control the soaring prices of hand sanitizers and masks and ensure its availability.

The State Attorney K V Sohan produced reports on various actions being taken by the government to contain the outbreak of Coronavirus.

The Judges asked the Attorney to file a statement on the actions taken by the government in this regard.

The HC also asked the State Attorney to state the details regarding raids conducted to prevent the hoardings and overpricing of masks and sanitizers.
