Cops foil jail break attempt in West Bengal

Kolkata/Birbhum, Aug 17 (IBNS): Two policemen were injured during a clash with few prisoners on Wednesday while they were attempting a jailbreak at a correctional home in West Bengal's Birbhum district, officials said.

According to reports, few prisoners tried to flee from Suri District Correctional Home in the morning.

When policemen prevented them, they engaged in a clash with the prison guards.

Two policemen, including Suri Correctional Home's Welfare Officer Subhajit Mukherjee and constable Sudhir Biswas, were injured in the tussle and rushed to a nearby hospital.

"Few prisoners attempted jailbreak at Suri District Correctional Home today morning, which was foiled by our prison guards," a senior official of Birbhum district police told IBNS.

"Two police personnel were injured in the incident. We have beefed up security in the correctional home," he further said.
