Contraband drugs worth Rs. 27 cr seized in Manipur

Guwahati, Apr 5 (IBNS): Security forces has seized contraband drugs worth Rs. 27 crore and apprehended three drug peddlers in Manipur.

The Tengnoupal Battalion orbated under 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (S) had apprehended drug smugglers carrying 90 kg of WIY tablets worth Rs 27 crore at PVCP, Khudengthabi on Thursday evening.

Based on specific input from a reliable source of DRI Imphal, regarding smuggling of contraband items through jungle track, a party was launched.

A top official said that, one party was kept further east of village Zommonum, another party started moving through jungle track near Kwatha junction.

"At about 2-30 pm a party of civilians were seen moving in a nallah. Upon being spotted, the party moved towards the civilians to stop them. On seeing this the civilians started fleeing through the nallah into the jungle. During the chase of the civilians, three of them with seven  plastic sandbags containing WIY tablets in it were caught. A total of seven plastic sand bags were ascertained to be WIY tablets following which  the three individuals were apprehended. The following contraband items were being smuggled by Paokholen Khongsai, Phogin Mang Khongsai and Sei Khogsai. The approximate cost of WIY tablets is Rs 27 crore," the official said.

The Battalion is resolute to prevent smuggling of narcotics and contraband items through the area of responsibility and subsequently to prevent youth of country from digressing on the path of drug abuse.
