Congress veteran N D Tiwari joins BJP

New Delhi, Jan 18 (IBNS) : Veteran Congress leader from Uttarakhand Naryan Dutt Tiwari on Wednesday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party along with his son Rohit Shekhar ahead of the Uttarakhand Assembly elections, reports said.

The 91-,year-old leader and his son formally joined the saffron party at the residence of party President Amit Shah.

Tiwari's induction into the BJP is being seen as an attempt to consolidate Brahmin votes in the hill state, particularly in the Kumaon region, a stronghold of Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

The veteran  leader is a three-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, one-time CM of Uttarakhand and held several key portfolios in various Congress governments at the Centre.

Tiwari had to make an unceremonious exit from the Raj Bhavan of Andhra Pradesh after a CD showing him in compromising position with women was aired by a local TV channel.
