Congress suspends 3 Jharkhand MLAs caught with cash in West Bengal

Ranchi: The three Congress MLAs, who were caught with piles of cash in West Bengal's Howrah district on Saturday, were suspended from the party on Sunday with immediate effect, media reports said.

Congress tried to link the cash recovery from its MLAs with BJP's poaching attempt to topple  Jharkhand's  Grand Alliance government, led by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) with Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation as allies.

However, BJP said it only highlights the corruption in the Jharkhand government under JMM's Hemant Soren.

Congress minister Alamgir Alam told a press conference today that the party's Bermo MLA Kumar Jaimangal has lodged an FIR against the three MLAs for luring other party legislators with Rs 10 crore each and a ministerial berth for a BJP government in the state, according to media reports.

Avinash Pande, General Secretary and In-charge, Jharkhand Congress told the media in Delhi that the party will take action against anybody, whether a public representative, party's office bearer or any worker, whoever is found to be involved in this.

The three Congress MLAs -- Irfan Ansari from Jamtara, Rajesh Kachhap from Khijri, and Naman Bixal Kongari from Kolebira -- are being questioned by the Howrah Rural police about the source of the money.
