Panaji/IBNS: Goa Congress Chief Girish Chodankar has slammed the BJP government for declaring the state "COVID-19 free" claiming that only 0.04 per cent of the total population have been tested for the infection so far which is a matter of worry for the Goans, said media reports.

He said the government has tested just 825 people, which is 0.04% of the 16 lakh population of Goa while 2158 patients are still under isolation, reported media.

He alleged that this "hurry" of the BJP government in the stated is a matter of worry for the Goans.

Chodankar raised doubts on the state government claim that it covered five lakh houses with 7,000 surveys in just three days, and slammed the Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for declaring Goa as COVID-19 free in a tweet.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant declared Goa COVID-19 free after the last positive patient in the state tested negative.

"A moment of satisfaction and relief for Goa as the last active #COVID19 case tests negative. Team of doctors and entire support staff deserves applause for their relentless effort. No new positive case in Goa after 3rd April (sic)," he said in a tweet.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane also confirmed that the state is free from coronavirus and lauded the frontline workers and doctors for making Goa coronavirus free.
