New Delhi: Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi has been hospitalised with Covid complications, the party said on Sunday, adding that her condition is stable.

"Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Ganga Ram Hospital today owing to Covid related issues. She is stable and will be kept at the hospital for observation. We thank all the Congress men & women as also all well-wishers for their concern and good wishes," party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said in a tweet.

Sonia Gandhi, 75, tested Covid-19 positive on June 2. She was asked to appear before the ED in connection with a money laundering case linked to National Herald, a media outlet run by The Associated Journals Ltd and owned by Young India Limited a company by Indian National Congress.

The ED extended her summon date to June 23 based on her request. She was initially asked to appear on June 8.

The Central agency that investigates financial frauds has also summoned her son and former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for questioning in the same case on June 13.

The Waynad MP was asked to depose on June 2 by ED but he sought a fresh date as he was out of India. The federal agency then asked him to appear for interrogation on June 13 at its headquarters in Delhi.

Congress has already announced a big protest on Monday when Rahul Gandhi appears at the ED office, alleging that the case against the Gandhis is a ruse by BJP to settle political scores.
